There’s a new chocolate bar on the block. Acme Import has added a brand new line of Fairtrade chocolate bars to its portfolio of high quality imported products, the Back To Nature chocolate bar series. With an emphasis on naturally good taste, these new bars are a sweet way to support farmers. We talked with Acme Import Co. President Brad Biederman to learn more:

Please introduce yourself – what is your role with Acme Import?

As President of Acme Import Co., I lead a strong group of marketing and sales professionals in achieving distribution for products that we represent on behalf of European manufacturers.

Tell us about your company. What’s your mission?

We import a select group of food and confectionery products and brands that offer brand attributes that meet today’s consumers demands.  To our vendors, our mission is to grow brand equity through increased points of distribution and strategic marketing.

What is the story behind the Back To Nature bars?

Back to Nature, since 1960, has been a leading brand whose mission is to provide foods made from recipes inspired by nature.  We have the opportunity to produce chocolate bars, ethically sourced, with natural integrity, that are simple and should make our customers smile.

Why did you choose to certify your product with Fairtrade?

There has been a consumer movement within the natural and healthy trade to buy products that are sustainable, and provide fair and equitable wages for its producers.  Fairtrade has been a leader in setting standards that are certified and providing a mark that consumers can recognize on our products for having met these standards.  We’re proud to carry the Fairtrade Mark on our Back To Nature Chocolate Bars.

What makes the product unique?

We provide the consumer with a well-recognized brand that is Non-GMO , Kosher certified, plant-based, and meets the Fairtrade certification standards.

How do you use your business to create a more sustainable and/or equitable world? How do you give back?

We work with our suppliers to achieve the various standard levels that we require, and therefore we pay and support higher costs to achieve these.

What’s next for Acme Import? Where do you see your company in 5 years, for example?

Acme Import, will continue to grow the brands we are involved with to achieve maximum points of distribution for our products.  This has helped us achieve double digit growth annually, which we hope to maintain over the coming years.

What inspires you and your team to work towards business for good?

It starts with the selection of like-minded individuals who are involved in the development and implementation of our programs.  Operating in the natural specialty food industry, we believe there is a shared sense of purpose to deliver high-quality and socially-conscience products to consumers.

What is one key takeaway for customers to know about Acme Import, Back To Nature and your work with Fairtrade?

That by choosing Back To Nature Chocolate bars, they are supporting fair practices and sustainability.  They are also choosing quality – Belgium chocolate, that is Organic and Non-GMO.  Fairtrade has been a great help to us, in gaining understanding for the sourcing of product and helping to educate our suppliers in the importance of supporting Fairtrade initiatives.

How can a customer get involved with your brand?

Consumers should learn more about the products we sell and if given the option, support products that carry the Fairtrade Mark.

Where can customers find your Fairtrade products?

We have distribution nationally, primarily in independent natural and specialty food stores.
