June firmly believes people should be treated equally and paid living wages for their hard work. She’s passionate about advocating for the human rights of those who may not have a platform to stand up for themselves.
June has considered herself a social justice advocate for about 7 years now. Up until high school, she was completely unaware about how our chocolate, coffee, sugar and even clothing is often created through human trafficking and forced and child labor. After seeing videos and hearing story after story, June knew that she could not ignore it. That is when she found Fair Trade! June was thrilled to find that she could not only purchase these items again with the confidence that unethical labor was being used, but also that it was supporting farmers and their communities around the world.
Since then, June has worked to spread awareness about Fair Trade through her blog, school projects, and striking up a conversation whenever she can.
June is now studying for her bachelor’s degree in social work, and then will obtain her license and master’s in social work. June has been excited about studying throughout her BASW program and seeing how Fair Trade fits right along with the standards of global social work! June firmly believes people should be treated equally and paid living wages for their hard work. She’s passionate about advocating for the human rights of those who may not have a platform to stand up for themselves.
Currently, June is working her way through school at her local co-op as a produce steward. Her co-op is a huge supporter of Fair Trade and brands such as Equal Exchange. She’s felt the most comfortable working there than any other retail position due to the fact that all of the products are 100% organic and lot lot of it is Fair Trade certified!
